5 Reasons Why Your Website Sucks and What To Do About It

There are tons of websites out there, but only a few of them can be called great. Sure, some are awesome when it comes to aesthetic appeal, but their user experience is just plain ugly.
To put it simply, a lot of today’s sites tend to focus more on the design aspect. Yes, your site’s design is important – but you need to pay extra attention to its usability.
But what exactly makes a website suck? Well, if you have been wondering about it, then you have come to the right place. Here is a list of ways things can go terribly wrong.
#1. Your Website Isn’t Findable
A good number of the biggest companies in the world that own websites can still find a way for people to find their site, and they do not necessarily rely on the best optimization techniques.
Unfortunately for you, that is not an option you can just take. This is most especially an issue for all gorgeous sites that have nothing but flashes and decorations. What is worse, they only have a single page that can be indexed by search engines like Bing and Google.
If you want search engines to know a thing or more about your website, make sure you optimize page titles and URLs, among many others.
#2. Your Website Has Poor Navigation
People go to your site to either find information or buy a product from you. But what do you think will happen if your site looks like a labyrinth? It seems like visitors must solve a puzzle before finding your contact page whatsoever.
This is where site navigation comes in. Basically, your site must be able to provide visitors with great navigation, so they will know exactly where to go. Even Google itself has imposed the importance of site navigation, especially since it directly affects user experience.
#3. Your Website Does Not Offer a Clear Call to Action
Ask these questions yourself: What would you like people to do once they find a way to your site? Have you already told them? Do you even have an idea about what call to action is?
If you cannot tell your visitors what to do, then they also will not know and they will surely have no interest in doing business with you.
Your best course of action here is to add clarity to the very action that you want them to perform.
For instance, you are selling a certain product on your site. Obviously, you want visitors to buy your product, so make sure a call to action feature is present – one that will stir their interest and persuade them to buy. It does not have to be cool or whatnot.
A straightforward and understand call to action feature (or button) should enough.
#4. Your Website is Simply Boring
Have you tried visiting a website before and you just lost interest because, well, there is nothing interesting on it? If you take a careful look at your site right now, what impression does it tell you?
Do you feel asleep looking at it? If so, then is also what your visitors are experiencing. There are a handful of reasons why a website looks boring, no matter how fast it loads or beautiful the design is.
What you want to do here is to provide your site a personality and charisma. For starters, use real photos instead of stock images, so it will not appear like a generic website. Instead of using industry jargons, try to focus on using action-focused language.
And when you post blogs, do not write them in a way that they appear to be quite technical and/or edgy. Go with blogs that can appeal to the emotion of your visitors and be smart enough to weave words.
#5. Your Website Is Inconsistent
Imagine yourself visiting a fast food establishment. You know that it focuses on selling hamburgers, but you are surprised to learn that it also offers meals common in fine dining restaurants. Is this situation not absurd?
Obviously, you will feel like everything about it is wrong – and that is now your first impression of the establishment. Now take this context and apply it to your website now. Does your site seem to suggest the same notion? If so, then you are missing a lot of opportunities.
There is a reason why consistency is essential in any website. Basically, your site must only speak of a single brand message. And when it does, you need to stick to it.
Being consistent in your brand means having the right mix of them and colors running on your site, qualities that convey the message of your brand. Everything about your website must be consistent with your brand message.
If the colors red and yellow are found on your brand’s logo, then make sure it strategically vibrates on your site.
