For us, this was an opportunity to build a travel platform where visual quality and technical performance needed to work together. Our Dublin based WordPress agency designed and developed a custom WordPress theme from the ground up, using Bootstrap 5 as the foundation and tailoring the entire experience around the needs of cruise travellers.
A Visual Language Built Around Travel

For CruisesSouth.com, our web design team created a colour palette based around #0a2540, #ff6b35 and white. We chose a system based font stack using Apple system fonts, BlinkMacSystemFont, Segoe UI and Arial. This gives the website a familiar and highly readable appearance across different operating systems and devices.
The advantage is not only visual consistency. System fonts are already available on most visitor devices, reducing the need to download additional font files. That contributes to a faster experience while maintaining excellent readability.
The typography was therefore chosen with both design and performance in mind. Headings have enough presence to separate destinations and topics clearly, while the body text remains comfortable for longer reading sessions.

Bootstrap 5 provided a reliable responsive foundation, but the finished website was not limited by a standard Bootstrap appearance. Our development team used it as a framework for creating the layouts and responsive behaviour while developing the actual interface around the requirements of the project.
This gives the website a much cleaner relationship between design and functionality. Instead of adapting the content to the limitations of a ready made theme, the theme itself was built around the content.
The result is a flexible publishing environment that allows the cruise content to grow while keeping the presentation consistent. It also means the website remains manageable for the people responsible for maintaining it.
